Nope! Bloggers Don’t Have it all Together {Video Series}

Nope Bloggers Don't Have it All Together

I’m eating my humble pie to help me swallow my embarrassment this week – for some reason I decided I’d let you into my home without straightening up first, just to show you that I’m no superwoman.

It’s easy to look at people we don’t know online and think, “She has 3 kids, makes all this beautiful food from scratch, packs perfect lunches, volunteers at church, runs a blog and probably has a perfect-looking house too! She does it all and is way better than me…”

That’s dangerous thinking, comparing ourselves to others, especially when we don’t really know the whole story.

On the Internet, people only show you what they want you to see.

Pretty food:

Happy children:

Nobody shows you the massive fit the toddler threw right before the photo…and at church, ugh…here he is, very distraught:

Throwing a fit

This week we’re getting bare just like that and sharing reality.

I hope you are encouraged and enjoy the videos!

Day One: The Living Room

Our living room catches lots of toys, and the busier we are, the worse it looks. I bet we have more stuff on our floor than you do!

The happy news? We cleaned it up, and you get to see that transformation too.

My goal with this series is to demonstrate real life and help you to know that your shortcomings as a homemaker just make you normal. No one *really* “does it all,” even if it seems that way on the Internet. 🙂

So…who’s got more stuff on their floor than we did? Winking smile

Day Two: The Kitchen

Welcome to my kitchen…which I did not clean up at all before shooting this video.

My goal with this series is to demonstrate real life and help you to know that your shortcomings as a homemaker just make you normal.

Bloggers may take pretty pictures of their food, but you can tell they’re not superwomen when you get to see what’s usually outside the field of the camera. 🙂

Day Three: The Kids’ Rooms

You might not be able to tell, because they’re still a bit cluttery after a busy week, but in my kids’ rooms, it IS actually true that there is “a place for everything.” We just need to work on “and everything in its place” becoming automatic without so much nudging from Mom!

How do you like my “laundry in the hallway” system? Nice, right?

Day Four: The Bathroom and the Laundry Room

My bathroom, although far from perfect, has a fighting chance of staying clean (except the floor which gets totally ignored), because I have some strategically placed cleaning supplies. You might actually pick up a few helpful tips from this video!

My laundry room is on the main floor (envy me, I know!) but it’s also in my main bathroom (disaster!).

I bet you’ll hear some familiar laundry monster sentiments in my sheepish explanation of how I manage the laundry in our 5-person home.

Have you seen my HOA presentations? That’s a sneak peak of my office, but a very narrow view. 😉 Tune in tomorrow for a look at the whole room.

Got a question? Got some gentle advice? I’m willing to have conversation here about my shortcomings…just please be kind, okay? It takes a lot to put your failures out there…

  1. Who has more stuff on the floor than you did? Ahem, we do. My father-in-law passed away 2-1/2 years ago. We finally sold the house on Valentine’s Day, but their stuff is still in our house. Hundreds and hundreds of boxes. We’re down to the last 225 boxes to sort through before having the auction, but right now we’re dropping everything to get the garden in. We’re building new garden boxes on the hill, so it takes days. The bad news? We literally cannot clean it up, since there isn’t enough room to put all of the boxes away. The good news? It’s only for a season.

Please, let your kiddos know how much I enjoyed seeing their bedrooms. They all seem to be good at being hosts and a hostess. I especially liked your daughter’s cat. It made me smile, because she reminds me of my four girls.

By the way, my 14-year-old, who was watching over my shoulder, said, “I know she’s trying to encourage us, but her house is way cleaner than ours is.”
